With the global environmental awareness on the rise, the new materials industry is undergoing a structural transformation. Recently, several research institutions and enterprises have successively announced technological advancements in the field of degradable materials, promoting the application exploration of related products in packaging, textiles, agriculture, and other fields.

In the packaging industry, the environmental pressure caused by traditional plastic products has prompted enterprises to accelerate their transformation. Packaging products made from biobased materials such as polylactic acid (PLA) and polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) have been piloted and promoted in areas like fresh food delivery and food delivery services. These materials can be completely degraded under specific conditions, helping to alleviate the pressure of waste disposal.

Research in the agricultural field is also worthy of attention. The research team recently successfully developed an agricultural mulching film that can naturally degrade in the soil. This product does not require manual collection after its usage period ends and can gradually decompose into water and carbon dioxide, effectively reducing white pollution in farmlands. Currently, this technology has achieved phased results in the experimental fields, and large-scale field application evaluations will be conducted in the future.

The textile industry is also exploring the green transformation of fiber materials. Biobased fibers made from raw materials such as cellulose and seaweed are gradually entering the market, and some brands have begun to launch clothing and home textile products made from these materials. Industry analysis indicates that although the balance between cost and performance remains a challenge at present, the speed of technological iteration is accelerating.

At the policy level, many countries have successively introduced relevant regulations to promote the development of circular economy, clearly restricting the use of some disposable plastic products, while encouraging the research and application of degradable materials. This has created a favorable environment for the development of new materials industries and also prompted enterprises to increase their investment in environmental-friendly materials.

Industry insiders point out that the wide application of degradable materials still needs to address issues such as cost control, standardization of degradation conditions, and the establishment of a comprehensive recycling system. In the future, it is necessary for the upstream and downstream of the industry to strengthen collaboration. Through technological innovation and model optimization, they can jointly promote the large-scale application of new materials in more scenarios.
